Spanish Composition & Oral Practice
Course Description:
The course focuses on developing written and oral skills. Every lesson begins with an engaging text (literature, culture, film) that serves as a springboard both for discussion and compositional analysis. The use of authentic texts will provide students with practical approaches to learn how to read well, enhance vocabulary, analyze texts’ structures and review some traditional problematic grammar areas. The course will expect you to write as well as to address an audience in academic settings (give opinions and write reviews for films, wrote op-eds, cover letters, letters to an editor, etc.). The course intends to build proficiency as defined by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. For students with two or more years of Spanish or an intermediate level of Spanish language proficiency.
Course Reflection:
This course introduced me to various types of writing including informative, persuasive, expository,and descriptive. With the introduction of these subjects, we were asked to complete various writing assignments that helped me continue practicing my writing skills and improve my Spanish vocabulary. The course also included various class discussions and a final presentation that gave me the opportunity to get feedback from my classmates as well as see different perspectives in relation to different issues. Therefore, this course implemented various topics that were interesting and helped me improve my understanding of the structure of the Spanish language.
