Course Reflection:
Prior to taking this course, the only Argentine authors that I was familiar with were Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortazar. However, though to the complexity of their work, I always felt discouraged when I misunderstood a theme or a concept. Therefore, this course was incredibly beneficial because through class discussions with the local Argentine students, I was able to get an idea of the magnitude of the impact of their work on the Argentine society. This course began by analyzing the works of authors who were considered as pioneers in their respective genres such as Domingo Faustino Sarmiento and Esteban Echeverria. The latter part of the course, was based on more modern authors that dealt with c controversial issues such as gender inequalities, and violence. Some of these authors included Selva Amada, Matilde Sanchez, and Juana Manuela Gorriti. The literary works that we analyzed in class varied from short stories, poems, critical essays and novels. As evidence of the work completed abroad, I have attached my final research paper which centered around the feminine image of La Cautiva (the Captive) by Esteban Echeverria.
Below is my final research paper on the representation of the "captive women" in the literature of Jorge Luis Borges and Esteban Echevarria.
